YOGA: A Lifestyle Practice

In this weekly class we explore the following
• Breath work to calm the mind and relax tension in the body
• Yogic postures for physical vitality & mental clarity*
• Yogic philosophy: a way of life + tools to support everyday well-being
• Meditation: withdrawing the mind and look into the radiant Self
• Guided deep relaxations
• Building self confidence, empowerment and self-love
• Weekly readings and take-home practices
This is a supportive class that allows space for each individual’s experience to unfold without pressure to ‘achieve’ or ‘perform’. The emphasis is on self-discovery and exploration of the 8 limbs of yoga (Yama, Niyama, Āsana, Prāṇāyāma, Pratyāhāra, Dhāraṇā, Dhyāna, Samādhi). Whether you are new to Yoga or have past experience, this class meets you wherever you are. No flexibility required!

* If you have physical injuries or limitations, alternatives will be provided

1. Wear comfortable natural fiber clothing that allows your body to move with ease & modestyAvoid eating at least 3 hours before class starts (avoid caffeine such as in coffee, tea and chocolate as much as possible the day of class)
2. Bringing a pillow/cushion is recommended. Other props like blanket, eye pillow, blocks or straps are also welcome if desired.
3. Yoga Mats are not necessary however you may bring one if you like.
4. Refrain from using perfumes & scents
5. Avoid eating or drinking 3 hours prior to class. And better to forego caffeinated drinks and foods the day of class.

YOGIC & AYURVEDIC COOKING:

In this ongoing class we will
• Cook all recipes together from scratch & share the meal together*
• Learn important Ayurvedic and Yogic principles around cooking & eating
• Experience the unique preparation methods of Indian food
• Explore the role of the 6 tastes, ayurvedic constitutions, and 3 gunas
• Build a repertoire of traditional (vegetarian) dishes from South India with an emphasis on foods for spiritual practitioners: appetizers, light dishes, deep fried, desserts, dals, curries, flatbreads, pickles, spice blends and so on.
This is a fun hands-on class but space is limited so please RSVP to reserve. No cooking experience is required.
* If you have dietary restrictions, some effort will be made to accommodate you. This class is for learning time-tested traditional recipes and therefore we recommend experimenting with substitutions in your home practice.

SACRED MASCULINE & FEMININE IN INDIA:
A workshop about the YOGA (Union) of Prakriti & Purusha

Join us for a discussion about the history of Yogic lifestyle in India as it relates to the masculine (purusha) and feminine (prakriti).
We will discuss men’s vs. women’s practices and how we can adopt this rich wisdom amidst the confusion and struggles both men & women face today.
By student demand, I teach this class once or twice a year.
